Samit Kalra

Samit's superpower is helping founders raise. After five years at 1984, he still has a 100% success rate helping portfolio companies close their seed and Series A rounds - a track record he credits to a career spent funding and helping startups. Prior to 1984, he backed over 15 startups as an investor at Bain Capital Ventures. At AngelList, he helped over 150 founders close their fundraising rounds. And before any of that, he was an investment banker helping founders sell and IPO their businesses.

At 1984 he focuses on vertical AI, where he's written extensively about new AI-first business models, defensibility and the opportunity for AI-native services. He also invests in marketplaces where he's built a comprehensive investing framework - covering network effects, unit economics and the chicken-and-egg problem - grounded in 1984's own portfolio of a dozen marketplace investments.

Originally Australian, Samit moved to the Bay Area in 2017 to follow his dreams of becoming an investor. He earned a Bachelor of Finance and Bachelor of Laws from the University of Sydney.
